It can be incredibly depressing to watch the news these days. It seems that the federal government continues to side with big business over the best interests of the people. This was hammered home in one of the most disastrous Supreme Court decisions in recent memory. Citizens United threatens to destroy our democracy. View their financial information on Open Secrets.
But I always remind myself to look for the good in the wake of the bad. That’s why I like to focus on a group called End Citizens United. The political action committee is committed to overturning the Supreme Court decision that threatens our democracy. They have a short-term plan to back candidates who will fight against the decision in order to stop the bleeding right away. Then they plan to attack the decision long-term with a law passed by Congress or a constitutional amendment.
They have recently backed the senatorial candidate from El Paso, Texas. Beto O’Rourke stands tall for everything that End Citizens United stands for. That’s why the political action committee is so delighted to learn that the Challenger has pulled within just a few points of Rafael Edward Cruz, the GOP incumbent from Texas.
That’s right, Ted Cruz does not go by his first name. Neither does he go by his middle name. Instead, he goes by a nickname based on his middle name in order to placate his conservative voters. Imagine him trying to drum up votes with a name like Rafael? He was also born in Calgary, Canada, which questions the constitutionality of his latest presidential run. End Citizens United and Beto O’Rourke stand in stark contrast to Rafael Edward Cruz. Rafael Edward Cruz is beholden to special interests because he takes massive donations from corporations under the protections of Citizens United. O’Rourke, on the other hand, denies corporate money in lieu of small donations made by individual citizens.
End Citizens United and the congressman from El Paso want to educate the public on this major difference. They believe that Texans will vote for O’Rourke once they find out that Cruz has been doing the bidding of corporations from outside of Texas.
We named @Rep_Hunter to our Big Money 20 list because he is a serial abuser of campaign funds – and he was just indicted for misuse of campaign funds.
