The funding cycle begins in round one. During this round, everyone with an idea can submit an application. This year Spark Tank received 14 initial applications. After sorting through the first round applications, the Spark Tank team invites a group of three finalists to present their ideas in front of the judges.

Each finalist has a set amount of time to talk in front of the judges and the judges follow up with questions. This cross-examination period plays a huge role in the Spark Tank project because it allows the organization to determine which group would truly do the most for the community.
